| Sound Doctrine
Genesis is a Bible-believing church. We believe God has revealed Himself through the Scriptures, and the Scriptures are to be taught using sound, orthodox doctrine. We emphasize every portion of Scripture, including God's work through the people of Israel, the birth, life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, the mission of the body of believers, and the ministering work of the Holy Spirit in the world today.
On this foundation we affirm the following as essentials of our faith:
One God
We believe in one God, the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things, infinitely perfect and eternally existing in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ, the living Word, became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. He who is true God became true man united in one Person forever. He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures. On the third day He arose bodily from the dead and He ascended into heaven, where, at the right hand of the Majesty on High, He now is our High Priest and Mediator.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit, third person of the Trinity, has come to glorify Christ, apply the saving work of Christ to our hearts,
can continue the supernatural ministry of Christ on
the earth. He convicts of sin and draws us to the Savior. Indwelling our hearts, He gives new life to us, empowers and imparts gifts to us for service, and seals us for the day of redemption.
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to Luke 3:16
and John 7:37-39,
is given to believers who hunger and ask for it. The
purpose of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is to empower
the believer for ministry (Acts 2:8). Once baptized in
the Spirit, the Spirit-filled believer is endowed with
certain supernatural gifts, including the ability to
speak with new
tongues. Exercising your gifts, including speaking in
another tongue, is under the control of the believer.
Salvation
Being estranged from God and condemned by our sinfulness, our salvation is wholly dependent upon the work of God's free grace. God credits His righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation, and thereby justifies them in His sight. Only such as are born of the Holy Spirit and receive Jesus Christ become children of God and heirs of eternal life.
We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is
absolutely essential to personal salvation.
Divine or Supernatural Healing
Divine healing is available through the redemptive work
of Christ on the cross. Christ bore our sickness and
disease that we might experience not only healing for
our bodies, but health as part of the promises of God.
The Church
The true Church is composed of all persons who through saving faith in Jesus Christ and the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit are united together in the body of Christ.
The passionate Christ follower will also be
committed to the local church where they serve
sacrificially, mature through community, and give in
obedience to scriptures.
The Return of Christ
Jesus Christ will come again to the earth—personally, visibly, and bodily—to judge the living and the dead and to consummate history and the eternal plan of God.
Eternal Judgment
In the resurrection and final judgment of both the saved
and the lost, the saved to everlasting life and the lost
to everlasting damnation.
The Great Commission
The Lord Jesus Christ demands all believers to proclaim the Gospel throughout the world and to make disciples of all nations. Obedience to the Great Commission requires total commitment to “Him who loved us and gave Himself for us.”
Marriage/Family
God ordained both family and marriage and has defined in
scripture what pleases Him. "The creator made them male
and female, and said, "For this reason a man will leave
his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the
two will become one flesh" (Matthew 19:4-5). Marriage is
to be an exclusive relationship, a lifelong faithful
union between a man and a woman. This relationship
between a husband and wife should parallel the
relationship between Christ and the Church (Ephesians
5:23-30).
Church Ordinances
We practice two ordinances: (1) Water Baptism by
immersion after repenting of one's sins and receiving
the gift of salvation. (2) Holy Communion (the
Lord's Supper) as a symbolic remembrance of Christ's
suffering and death for our salvation.
Giving and the Local Church
Tithes and offerings should be freely given to your
local church. The local church is the place of
membership where God has called you to receive His Word
on a consistent basis and to grow spiritually. We
practice giving alms to the poor, sick, homeless and
others in despair, as well as supporting international
missions.
